XL Members Receive Closure Notice
UFCW Local 1400 members of XL Foods in Moose Jaw received another blow on August 12, 2010 with notice of closure being served to the union. This company will be closing the Moose Jaw facility in 90 days. This notice coming after workers have been locked-out by Nilsson Brothers Group, owners of XL Foods, as of August 12 for 328 days plus a five month layoff prior, leaving these members out of work since April of 2009.
The local has served notice to bargain a closer agreement to XL Foods and awaits response.
Picket lines will remain up and running until the closure date. UFCW Local 1400 and each of these picketers thank everyone for their donations and continued support.

Tickets will be on sale through the Saskatoon office of UFCW Local 1400 during the hours of 9am to 5 pm Monday to Friday (you must purchase your ticket in person). Tickets will also be available at the 4th Biennnial Shop Steward Conference on September 24 to 26, 2010.
This raffle is open to all. Winning ticket will be drawn on September 26, 2010.

Fundraising for Leukemia Research Brings Exceptional Results
The UFCW Canada Leukemia and Lymphoma Research Fundraising Gala was held on June 11, 2010 in Toronto. Members from Local 1400 attended the evening and shared in the excitement as donations from locals across the country were presented. National President Wayne Hanley commended the membership for the success and commitment to this campaign (pictured right).
Local 1400 President Norm Neault is pictured (above) handing over Local 1400's cheque for $17,000, the result of golf tournaments, the Rider bus trip, BBQ's, 50/50's and many other endeavors of the membership over the past year.
The total raised throughout Canada in the 2009/2010 period was announced at the gala on Friday, an incredible $1,914,260; again, a new achievement and one that every UFCW member in Canada should be very proud of. See more info and pics on the UFCW Canada web page.
It has been 25 years since the first fundraising for Leukemia Research started and as of this year's donation, United Food and Commercial Workers Canada has donated $21,773,802 towards research to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
