From Negotiations Report March, 2008

This unit was certified on October 10, 2006. We had our first bargaining meeting on October 30,with further dates set but subsequently canceled by the company; the union then applied for conciliation from the Department of Labour. Several meetings with a conciliation officer took place, however, the parties remained a long way from a settlement. The union applied for First Agreement arbitration assistance under The Trade Union Act. A board agent was appointed and met with the parties to attempt to bring about a settlement. However, no settlement was reached and in mid February 2008, the report on recommendations of what should be contained in the First Agreement was released. A full report to the membership will take place once the report has been studied and the affected members have been consulted.

Several meetings with the assistance of a Conciliation Officer took place, however, the parties were a long way from reaching a settlement. The union applied for First Agreement arbitration assistance under the Trade Union Act. A Board Agent was appointed and met with the parties, to attempt to bring about a settlement. No settlement was reached, and the Board Agent will write a report that will form the Collective Agreement. We expect to receive this report soon.

Several meetings with a Conciliation Officer from the Department of Labour have taken place, with only small amounts of progress made. Due to this, the union applied for First Agreement arbitration assistance under The Trade Union Act. A Labour Board Agent was appointed and meetings have taken place in mid June and late July.

After this new employer cancelled a number of set negotiation dates, the union applied for conciliation from the Department of Labour.  Meetings with a conciliation officer took place on February 12 and 13 and some progress was made.  Further dates were scheduled for April 16 and 17, 2007.

This new unit was certified on October 10, 2006. We had our first bargaining meeting on October 30. Further dates had been set, but were cancelled by the Company. Concerned about these cancellations, the union applied for conciliation from the Department of Labour. Meetings with a conciliation officer are set for February 12 and 13, 2007.
