Three Year Agreement Reached

Marathon bargaining took place December 19 to 21, March 21 to 23 and May 4 and 5, 2006, totaling over 100 hours in eight days!  Special thanks to the Bargaining Committee for working such long hours.

 

On May 15, 2006, the membership of this unit ratified this new three year agreement.  Highlights include:

 

·        An increase in union Representative visits - allowing a visit of ten minutes for each member;

·        Union representation for verbal reprimands;

·        Discipline removed from members files after nine months;

·        Employees are entitled to all documents which could lead to discipline;

·        An improved Job Posting procedure;

·        Improved staff Meal Allowance;

·        Health and Safety language improvements;

·        A joint Labour/Management meeting commitment;

·        A guarantee of eight full time positions (previously there were six, two positions are new);

·        Increases to Dental Plan contributions;

·        The employer cannot ask for a doctors note unless the absence is for greater than three days;

·        An increase to the kilometre allowance of 50˘ per hour;

·        Significant vacation improvements – three weeks after one year, four after eight years, five after twelve years, six after eighteen years and seven after twenty four years;

·        The employer will contribute $200.00 annually to an employee social club fund; and

·        An average of 54˘ per hour increase for each employee upon ratification, and 2.5% in year both years two and three of the contract.

Marathon bargaining took place December 21 to 23, 2005, totaling 49 hours in three days! Special thanks to the Bargaining Committee for working such long hours.  There was fair amount of progress made, with the following improvements being agreed to:

  • Increase in union Representative visits - allowing a visit of ten minutes for each member;

  • Union representation for verbal reprimands;

  • Discipline removed from the member’s file after nine months;

  • An increase to kilometre allowance of 50˘ per hour; and

  • Significant vacation improvements.

 Bargaining resumed March 21 to 23 but little progress was made at this set of meetings.  More dates are being scheduled.  The Negotiation Committee for this unit is Tammy Lekopoy and Elizabeth Cain, assisted by Representative Darren Kurmey.
