From Negotiations Report May, 2008
On March 5, 2008, the members at this unit ratified their new three-year Collective Agreement with all employees receiving a wage increase of 4.5% retroactive to January 1, 2008, and 3.5% and 4% increases on January 1, 2009, and 2010, respectively.
Other highlights of this agreement include:
Clearer seniority rights language in the event of layoff.
Specific language covering bumping rights (rather than relying on the implied provisions in the general seniority clauses).
Relief rates for relieving an out-of-scope position will increase to $13.00 per day and to $10.00 per day for an in-scope position.
Any temporary job can now be filled for a period of two months only, unless there is mutual agreement by the union to a longer period.
Clarified language regarding rest and meal periods for part-time employees was written into the Agreement.
Balancing work and family days increased from three to six days and will now include all balancing work and family issues, rather than just medical appointments for family members.
Travel time for work related purposes will be treated as paid time.
Language was added to include employment related statutes under an arbitration panel’s jurisdiction.
Improvements to language regarding vacation scheduling, union representative visits, and benefit provisions for job sharing employees.
Congratulations to these members on this excellent settlement. The Negotiation Committee consisted of members Michelle Kulyk and Janice Osecki, assisted by Representative Lucy Figueiredo and Collective Bargaining Representative Don Logan.
