From Negotiations Report March, 2008

These new units were certified in March 2006. Since then, a conciliation officer from the Department of Labour was appointed to attempt to get a Collective Agreement, an Unfair Labour Practice charge against the company was filed which the union won, and the employer was ordered to bargain with the union and to provide the information the union requested.

First Agreement arbitration assistance was then applied for and a number of issues were resolved. However, at the last meetings we were unable to finalize all issues and the Board Agent wrote a report. The written report has not settled the contract, however, and the matter had to go back to the Labour Relations Board. The first hearing was held on December 20, 2007, and there are basically three issues left to resolve including benefits. We were hopeful that the next hearing date, which had been set for March 10, 2008, would conclude the matter. However, this is now delayed due to the firing of the Labour Relations Board Vice-Chairperson hearing the case. We understand it may still be possible to have this heard in either April or May.

From Negotiations report December, 2007

Through First Agreement Arbitration assistance, several meetings were held with this employer and a number of issues were resolved, however, at our last meetings we were unable to finalize all issues and the Board Agent wrote her report. A Labour Board hearing will be set soon to finalize the new contract.

From Negotiations report August, 2007

With the assistance of a Labour Relations Board Agent through First Agreement arbitration, several meetings have been held with this employer and a number of issues were resolved. However, at the last meetings on May 29 and 30, the parties were unable to finalize all issues and the Board Agent will have to write a report which may become the First Collective Agreement for this unit unless it is contested by either party. We expect to receive the report soon.

From Negotiations report May, 2007

Since the union applied for First Agreement arbitration and a Labour Relations Board Agent was assigned, there have been several meeting dates and considerable progress on issues for a First Agreement has been made.  Virtually all non-monetary issues have been tentatively settled and some economic issues as well.  Further dates are set for May 1 and 2, 2007.

From Negotiations report January, 2007

These units were certified on March 13, 2006, and there have been considerable difficulties in attempting to negotiate with this employer which, in part, have led the union to file an Unfair Labour Practice charge against the Company. The union won the case and the employer was ordered to bargain with the union and to provide the information the union requested.

The union has also applied for First Agreement arbitration. The Board Agent has managed to schedule several meeting dates with the employer starting in January 2007.

From Negotiations report November, 2006

The Unfair Labour Practice charge filed against the company regarding the difficulty of getting proper employee information from this employer was heard by the Labour Relations Board on October 13, 2006.  No decision has been reached by the Board.  The union has applied for First Agreement arbitration.

From Negotiations report October, 2006

These new units were certified on March 13, 2006.  After some difficulties, the company met with the union on April 12, and again on May 16, 2006.  At the May meeting, rather than provide a response to the union’s proposals tabled on April 12, the employer’s committee choose to leave the meeting after about ten minutes.

Following this meeting, a Department of Labour Conciliation Officer was appointed to assist with the negotiations, at the request of the union.  He was able to get the company to agree to meet on June 1, 2006, where we were able to get several smaller contract language issues settled.

We have had difficulty getting proper employee information from this employer which has, in part, forced the union to file an Unfair Labour Practice charge against the company.  Further bargaining was set for August 30, 2006, however, the company failed to show up.  The union will be applying for First Agreement arbitration.

From Negotiations report August, 2006

These new units were certified on March 13, 2006.  After some difficulties, the company met with the union on April 12, and again on May 16, 2006.  At the May meeting, rather than provide a response to the union’s proposals tabled on April 12, the employer’s committee was so hostile, they stomped out of the meeting after about ten minutes.

We applied to the Department of Labour for a Conciliation Officer to be appointed.  He was able to get the company to agree to meet on June 1, 2006, where we were actually able to get several smaller contract language issues settled.  We have, however, had difficulty getting proper employee information out of this employer, which has, in part, forced the union to file an Unfair Labour Practice charge against the company.  Further bargaining dates are set into July and August.

From Negotiations report May, 2006

After some difficulties, the company met with the union on April 12, and again on May 16, 2006.  At the May meeting, rather than providing a response to the union's proposals tabled on April 12, the employer's committee left the meeting.  The union may need to file Unfair Labour Practice charges against this company in order to force them to bargain, however a meeting is scheduled in Regina on June 1, 2006.

From Negotiations report April, 2006

These new units were certified on March 13, 2006.  Members have chosen their Negotiating Committee and approved proposals for their first contract.  The company has agreed to meet with the union on April 12, 2006 to start negotiations.
