From Negotiations report October, 2006
At a ratification
meeting held on September 7, 2006, the members at Masterfeeds voted to accept a
new three year Collective Agreement.
Highlights of the new Agreement include:
Wage increases of 3% in the first year, 2.5% in the second, and 3% in the last year of the Agreement, with full retroactive pay from January 1, 2006.
Improvements to the Shop Steward ability language; stewards are now able to perform duties on company time, as well as an improvement to the Shop Steward Leave Of Absence article.
A Footwear Allowance premium of $135 (up from $110).
A reduction from 24 to 18 months in the wage progression to become an Operator.
Any employee in the "Labour" classification required to perform duties of a higher paying classification, upon completion of 12 months service, shall be paid for all such hours worked at the higher rate of pay.
Improvements in the third year of the Collective Agreement to the CCWIPP (pension) employer cents per hour contributions.
Sick Pay will increase from two to three days per year.
Increases to Severance Pay.
New items won in this Collective Agreement include:
Overtime by seniority, an internal job posting procedure, Remembrance Day now a recognized Statutory Holiday, six weeks of vacation after 25 years of service, vacation scheduling procedure, uninterrupted rest periods for all shifts, uninterrupted unpaid meal breaks for the day shift, paid meal breaks which will not be unreasonably interrupted for the afternoon/evening shift, one day of paid leave of absence in the event of the death of an aunt, uncle, niece or nephew, and a one day unpaid leave of absence to attend a funeral as pallbearer wherever possible.

Negotiations with this unit will resume on September 5 and 6, 2006 with the assistance of a Federal Conciliator. These negotiations came to a halt on April 27, 2006 when the parties entered into discussions on monetary proposals of which a number remain outstanding. Most language items have been dealt with.

Bargaining for this unit commenced February 22 to 24, 2006, and was slow going. Only a handful of proposals have been agreed to, such as the employer providing the union with seniority lists, and the establishment of an internal posting procedure. No monetary issues have been discussed yet. Further dates are set for April 25 to 27 and June 20 to 22, 2006.
