Heritage Inn, Moose Jaw

From Negotiations report December, 2007

The members employed at the Heritage Inn in Moose Jaw have a new three-year Agreement.  Highlights include:

  • Wage increases over the three-year term between 11.34% and 18.8%.

  • Significant increases to the dental plan premiums.

  • Improvements to contract language in the leave of absence purpose clause, the housekeeping workload article, and to meal discounts.

  • Minimum overtime shift language increases from three to four hours.

  • Union representation during discipline meetings has been strengthened and expands to any meeting where a record will be kept.

  • The company will now provide the union with up to date employee information twice per year.

  • Language was added to the Agreement providing for all rest and meal periods to be uninterrupted.

  • The length of employment requirement for four weeks of vacation entitlement will be reduced from eight to six years; five weeks of entitlement after twelve instead of thirteen years; and six weeks of entitlement after eighteen years, rather than nineteen. Improvements were also made to the vacation scheduling and vacation pay language.

Congratulations to these members on their new settlement.  The committee consisted of members Hazel Hack, Deb Santa and Juliette Hodgson, assisted by Collective Bargaining Representative Don Logan.

From Negotiations report August, 2007

We met with this employer from July 3 to 6, 2007, with a number of smaller issues being cleaned up. The employer is, however, sticking to a number of concessionary demands, even though, by the employer’s own admission, employees are hard to get in the service industry. The next bargaining dates should be held in September, however, they have not been confirmed yet.

From Negotiations report May, 2007

This Agreement will expire within the next few months.  Members will be contacted to submit bargaining proposals and meetings will be held to select a Negotiation Committee.
