From Negotiations report January, 2007
This unit was previously known as Saskatoon Credit Union, with the merger of Langham and Shellbrook Credit Unions to the umbrella, they have been renamed to FirstSask Credit Union. Employees from the Langham Credit Union group voted to join Local 1400 effective with the merger.
After rejecting an earlier offer in October of 2006, members at this unit now have a new Collective Agreement which will be in effect until March 31, 2010. Highlights include:
Each employee's rate of pay increases by 3% effective January 1, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Agreement language was improved to include dependant children who are over the age of 18 in cases where employees need to use sick time to attend to the illness or injury of a child.
A premium of $100 per month will be paid to any employee performing a new procedure called "compliance" which ensures all mutual fund documentation is properly filled out.
Other language improvements were made including updating the scope clause, the name of the employer, a mechanism to deal with changing workloads for employees who sell mutual funds and loans to the public, and the integration of the employees of the former Langham Credit Union who voted to join Local 1400 late last year.
Each employee will be eligible to apply for a paid day of leave to participate in volunteer work.
The parties agreed that every second full-time teller position will be awarded under an "Aboriginal Mentorship Program". This is a program the union and employer have agreed the employer will be embarking upon to increase the integration of persons with Aboriginal ancestry into this workplace.
Congratulations to these members on their excellent settlement. The hard working committee consisted of Val Leard, Rhonda Robinson, Marilynne MacFarlane and Katherine Bray. Unfortunately, shortly before negotiations started, Kathy was injured in a car accident. Alternate member, Brenda Cromwell, took her position for the duration of negotiations. Kathy is on the mend and we wish her a speedy recovery. The committee was assisted by Collective Bargaining Representative, Don Logan.
From Negotiations report November, 2006
A vote was held on an offer to settle the Agreement on October 30, 2006. The membership rejected the offer. Bargaining is scheduled to resume on November 20 and 21, 2006.
From Negotiations report October, 2006
Bargaining with this employer started on July 4, 2006. Some dates were cancelled by the employer, but further dates were set into October. So far only some small housekeeping changes have been agreed upon.
From Negotiations report May, 2006
Members have now elected their "base" bargaining committee to review and finalize proposals. From this group, they will elect the "table" committee (the actual committee of four members who meets with the Employer).
