Securitas Security, Regina & Balance of Province

From Negotiations report April, 2006

At ratification meetings held April 2 to 4, 2006, the members employed by Securitas Security voted to accept a new Collective Agreement covering Regina and the balance of the Province of Saskatchewan.

Highlights of this new Agreement (which expires November 5, 2008) include:

  • Wage increases of 3.5 % retroactive to March 1, 2006, a further 3.5% on November 6, 2006, and another 3% increase on November 6, 2007.

  • A minimum wage gap guarantee clause.  This means employees on each of the November anniversary dates will receive a wage increase that can be no less than the increase in minimum wage commencing in 2006.  For example, if a 3.5% increase were to give an employee a 30¢ per hour increase on a November anniversary date, but minimum wage went up on March 1 by 50¢, that employee receives a wage increase of 50¢ on November 1, instead of the 30¢.  This takes place each time minimum wage increases in the future, commencing with the minimum wage increase in 2006.

  • References to temporary and casual employees are deleted from the new Agreement all employees are now either full-time or part-time and entitled to the full benefits of these employment statuses.

  • Improvements to contract language were made in the union access, union leaves of absence, grievance procedure, minimum shift provisions, meal allowance, relief rates, layoff and guaranteed recall, hazard pay provisions, kilometre allowance, shelter allowance, paid time allowed when moving from site to site, boot allowance, vacation,  and compassionate leave with pay provisions.

  • A significant improvement to the job security provisions included the language being amended to make all seniority rights non-competitive in nature.  This means that in all aspects of job filling and retaining employees in the event of layoff, employees will only have to be qualified to do the work as opposed to being more qualified than the junior employee, a significant improvement over the previous competitive contract language in these areas.

  • Education Fund and Dental Plan Fund contributions will also be increased over the term of the contract.

Congratulations to these members on their excellent settlement.  The Negotiating Committee consisted of members Don Frederickson, Ed Giesen, Wendy Nielsen, Randy Doering and were assisted by Collective Bargaining Representative Don Logan.

From Negotiations report January, 2006

Following four days of negotiations in late November, much of the non-monetary contract language has been settled.  Further dates are set into mid-February to continue negotiations.

Of major significance in these negotiations is the Union’s request for a provision whereby members receive a wage increase when the Provincial Minimum Wage increases.  Local 1400 won a provision like this in the recent Trojan negotiations and this membership has made it clear they expect this provision as well.
