Best Western Seven Oaks Inn,
From Negotiations report April, 2007
On March 6, 2007, the members employed at the Best Western Seven Oaks Inn in Regina ratified a new three-year Agreement. Features of the new settlement include:
Inclusion of the new Family Day statutory holiday in the Agreement.
Clarification to the severance pay article that members are in fact entitled to both pay in lieu of notice and severance pay where the severance is longer than the pay in lieu of notice provision.
A substantial increase to the dental plan contributions over term.
A new RRSP program where employees with more than six months of employment contribute twenty cents per hour into an RRSP, matched by the employer. (Previously the employees had no form of pension plan.)
Wage increases in the first year of the Agreement of three to twelve per cent, depending on classifications (increases are retroactive to December 10, 2006), and wage increases in years two and three of three per cent across the board.
We were successful, in a number of classifications, in reinstating a higher start rate spread to the minimum wage which had eroded with the increases to minimum wage.
Congratulations to the membership on their excellent settlement. The Negotiating Committee consisted of members Melinda Piesinger, Dana Hryloriw, Chad Matwiy, Maggie Dunkeld and Joe Gustavson. The committee was assisted by Collective Bargaining Representative Don Logan.
From Negotiations report January, 2007
The first meeting with this employer took place on December 21, 2006 with further meeting dates set for January 25 and 26, 2007. The employer has indicated a reasonable wage increase will be offered; however, we have received no specifics.
From Negotiations report October, 2006
This Agreement will expire by the end of the year. Members of this unit will be selecting Negotiation Committee members and preparing bargaining proposals in the very near future.
