From Negotiations report April, 2006
Negotiations with this unit have been ongoing and, with the help of a Conciliation Officer from the Department of Labour, meetings with this employer were held in early April. Significant progress was made at these meetings and a tentative Agreement was reached. Members of this unit voted to accept their first Collective Agreement on April 5, 2006.
Prior to this group becoming UFCW Local 1400 members, they had an Association Agreement in place. It became the starting point to reaching a Collective Agreement.
Highlights of this new three-year Agreement include:
Language improvements to the Grievance and Arbitration procedure;
Union Leave clause;
Improved Overtime clause including banking of hours and overtime for travel;
Eye care provisions of $200 over a 24-month period towards eyewear in addition to eye exams being paid;
Reduced steps in the wage progression;
The lowest classification was removed;
New rates for Computer Technicians;
Back pay retroactive to January 1, 2006;
Increases to the wage scales of 3% on January 1, 2007, and 3.5% on January 1, 2008.
Congratulations to this group of members on their First Collective Agreement. Negotiating Committee members Lynda Kirkland and Heather Carey were assisted by President Paul Meinema in reaching this Agreement.
