Winners Closes Unionized Store
On March 29,
Winners announced the closure of its River City Mall (Circle Drive) location in
The company has
told the employees that the closure was due to store economics and the decision
of the company to go in a different direction meaning larger stores and a
superstore concept with side by side Winners and Home Sense stores.
The company refused
to answer when the media questioned them if they were closing because the store
is unionized.
The union’s focus
has now switched to negotiating a closure agreement as required by the Trade
Union act and insuring that our member’s rights are protected.
